HOW TO KNOW GOD PERSONALLY
1. God loves you and created you to have a personal relationship with Him.
How can you know that God loves you?
“For God so loved the world that he gave his
one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have
eternal life” (John 3:16).
God wants you to know him
Jesus said: “Now this is eternal life: that
they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent”
(John 17:3).
If this is the will of God, what is the
obstacle for us to have a personal relationship with him?
2. Sin separate us from God:
that’s why we can not have a personal relationship with God or enjoy his
love.
We are all sinners
“for all have sinned and fall short from the
glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
What's sin?
Man, created to live a personal relationship with God, decided alone what to do about his own life. We demonstrate this attitude being explicitly rebelled or simply being indifferent to his love.
Sin separate us from God
“For the wages of sin is death” (separation of God forever) (Romans 6:23). “(Isaiah 59:2).
God is holy, we are sinners. An abyss separate us. In our life there is an empty that nothing can fulfill: no friends, or money, or culture, or a career or anything. We can try to throw bridges to reach God with religious practices, behaving well, through meditation, but all of our efforts are useless, because they don’t solve source of the problem: sin.
The third truth points to the only solution.
3. Jesus Christ is the only solution. He destroyed the power of the relationship between God sin and restored the relationship between God and man.
He died in our place
“ For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God” (I Peter 3:18).
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in
this: While we were sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
He’s raised from the dead
Peter said: “This man (Jesus) was handed over
to you…and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to
the cross. But God raised him from the dead…” (Acts 2:23-24).
Jesus Christ is the only way to reach God
Jesus said:” I am the way and the truth and the
life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
The separation from God is what we deserve as a fair condemnation for our sin. But God sent his Son to make expiation for our punishment by dying on the cross. Jesus has thus become the bridge over the abyss which separate us from God. For this now we can know God and we can be forgiven of our sin.
But it is not enough knowing these three
truths…
4. We must accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior; only then we can know God personally and enjoy his love.
“ Yet to all who received him, to
those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John
1:12).
